Licóbidos is an over 50-year old family-run company left by its mentor and creator, Mr. Abílio Ferreira de Carvalho, around the 40's in the last century.
For years we have dedicated to the production of the so-called "ginja/ginjinha de Óbidos" /the sour cherry liqueur, certified by PPART, according to the regulations as a handmade manufacturing unity. Between 2008 and 2011, we built a new factory with an area of about 2,000 square metres, so restructuring our facilities both looking ahead and thinking about today's needs. With a production of about 90,000 litres of liqueur in 2012 and present in 4 foreign countries, we try to take our mark further on every day keeping always in mind the high quality level that has has been our mark.
We own c. 25 ha farm-land exclusively designed to the plantation of sour cherry-trees and so we guarantee our self-sufficiency and keep high-quality standards which has always been our chief aim. We were one of the pioneer companies in Portugal that made this excellent drink known, which was formerly a village tavern liqueur but in these days it is a liqueur with a touch of elegance and exquisiteness.
This is why Licóbidos is reliable and having got strong ancestor ties it has been produced with the aim of strengthening flavours, revive memories, offering to each of you the true flavour of Tradition.
